Mitsuyoshi’s Prayer layers a contemporary form of devotion onto the traditional silhouette of a kokeshi doll. The countless sperm motifs covering the body stand as symbols of life itself—gathered here as a collective wish for the recovery of Noto Peninsula. The character “祈” (prayer) inscribed on the head conveys a quiet act of standing close, even from afar. Set against a darkness that evokes uncertainty and loss, silver surfaces emerge like shafts of hope, creating a striking contrast. This work holds prayer not as a solitary act, but as an accumulation of lives, intentions, and enduring belief.
